Mr. Peebles has spent the last two weeks holed up in his living room, reviewing footage from the 2009-10 NFL season, and examining the new drafts/trades that occurred in the off-season. His conclusions? Nothing yet. In between bathroom breaks, we caught up with Mr. Peebles by phone: “Why are you jerks hounding me, it’s only August 16th, go crawl up someone else’s *ss!”. After we apologized for disrupting his day, Peebles stated, “I’ll give you my picks for best sportsbooks and top NFL teams as I see it now, but none of this is set in stone - please look at your inbox.” To our surprise, Peebles sent an email and had the following pre-season NFL advice, a rare feat considering the fact that his crotchety attitude and summer football blues are still in full effect.
According to Peebles:
If you’re going to bet on football, do it at the right places. There are literally dozens of fly-by-night sportsbooks springing up every day. Most of the time, these operations are false fronts for organized crime or some sort of other con. So, if you get email from a sportsbook you’ve never heard of, DO NOT play there. Stick with the industry cornerstone operations, like Sportsbook.com, Superbook.com, or Sportsbetting.com, and you’ll be fine. “Look at the ads on my website: I’m totally not bullsh*tting you, I put my money where my mouth is,” a literal quote from Mr. Peebles’ lengthy diatribe in response to our rather bland, paltry mix of questions.
All things considered, Mr. Peebles is actually on to something here. The previously mentioned sportsbooks all have over 10 years in the business, providing customers with reliable places to bet longer than your dog has been alive. That’s why they’re big and still in business, and that’s why people keep coming back year after year. Any sportsbook that doesn’t treat its players with a lick of respect nor pay them out might make a quick buck, but they will NOT be around the next football season. Don’t take any chances with your money, just play at the top shops.
We also got some information about which teams Peebles regards as the best going into the 2010-11 season. Truth be told, getting this info out of Peebles was like pulling teeth, or trying to pass a stool using oats (it just doesn’t work).
Peebles thinks the Saints, Colts, Chargers, Bengals, and Cowboys will be big this year. The Rams and lowly Lions are still on the sh*t-end of the stick, with or without Rush Assbaugh as owner. What about the Vikings? Well, that comes down to Brett Favre, and whether or not he’ll retire for the thirty-eighth time, or suit up and struck on to the field yet again.
Of course, we may be in for a few surprises this season: Peebles thinks the Jets, Giants, and Eagles might do well, and should take strong positions in their respective divisions. Although not favored to actually make/win the 2011 Super Bowl, these teams will be worthy contenders this season, giving the top dogs a run for their money.
If you’re going to bet on Week 1, go with the favorites based on last year’s results. Take the Saints on the Thursday opener, unless Drew Brees gets hit by lightening. Go with the Colts over the weekend, they should do well, unless Peyton Manning gets hit by an out-of-control motor home. According to Peebles, such things happen on a regular basis to top NFL quarterbacks, so watch the lines carefully.
That’s it for now from Mr. Peebles. Enjoy the pre-season and get ready for the NFL 2010-11 season, starting September 9, 2010 at 8:30 PM on NBC!
Good Luck from Mr. Peebles!
