NFL Betting – Results from Sunday October 11, 2009 and Other Notes

What the puck? Peebles had a terrible weekend, going 2-3 on his picks. 40% winning percentage for a weekend of football is no good, and that means that if you bet all of Peebles’ picks, you probably lost money. Sincere apologies, Mr. Peebles will do his best NOT to let that happen again.

Needless to say, Week 5 NFL Betting was a wild one. A lot of underdogs came up big, destroying sportsbooks in the process. This result was typical of games between evenly matched opponents, which means the coin toss landed on the wrong side of the coin for Mr. Peebles. In his defense, he did make picks for a few close games, and did not rely on the Lions or Rams to boost his win percentage. Everyone knows the big money is on the top teams, so it doesn’t make any sense to waste time with low grade freebies a first grader could make. With that in mind, here are Mr. Peebles’ results:

Mister Peebles’ Results from Sunday October 11, 2009

Sun, Oct 11

Pick Result
Dallas Cowboys vs. Kansas City Chiefs Cowboys Loss, Chiefs Beat Spread
Oakland Raiders vs. New York Giants Raiders to beat Spread Loss
Atlanta Falcons vs. San Francisco 49ers Falcons Win
New England Patriots vs. Denver Broncos Patriots Loss
Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennesee Titans Colts Win

As a result of this bloodbath, Peebles’ record over 25 games is now 14-11, yielding a fair wining percentage of 56%. Peebles was riding high the first few weeks of football batting 60% or better on some weekends, but now, it seems like bad luck has caught up with him. Does that mean picks for Week 6 NFL betting will suck? No, Peebles is already at the drawing board figuring out where to put the smart money this weekend, regardless of how you fared for Week 5.

Looking at Peebles’ 2 wins, we see that the underdog Atlanta Falcons came through, while the Indianpolis Colts stayed true to form and horse whipped the Tennesee Titans. Everyone was sure the 49ers would clip the Falcons’ wings, but Mr. Peebles knew much better. The Falcons are a good team, and we should see big things from them as the season progresses. Likewise, the Colts took a crap on the Titans, handing them a decisive 31-9 loss. Oddsmakers had the Titans set much closer than that, but Mr. Peebles knew the trouble Titans would not be able to come close to amazing Colts offensive team.

Now on to his losses. In the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Kansas City Chiefs game, Mr. Peebles thought more highly of the Cowboys. To be fair, the Chiefs just edged into the 7.5 point spread by 6 points, making this game a close shave for the bookmakers. What was more surprising than the Cowboys mediocre play was the improvement in the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have been on a rocky road since Week 1, so it seemed to make sense that they would not even come close to Dallas. Unfortunately for Mr. Peebles, they managed to pull it off.

After the result of the Oakland Raiders vs. New York Giants game, you probably wondered whether or not Mr. Peebles was on crack when suggested the Raiders would beat the 15 point spread. In reality, this was a horrible pick to make: the Oakland Raiders have been inconsistent, while the Giants have trounced every opponent so far this year. They’re easily one of the top teams in the league right now, and the thought Oakland could keep pace with them was probably wishful thinking. Mea culpa.

Finally, the New England Patriots vs. the Denver Broncos. This was probably the closest game of the weekend in terms of how the lines were offered at the sportsbooks, which favored the Patriots. Denver came to play, however, and successfully held on to their UNDEFEATED status against a somewhat bewildered Patriots squad. A 5-0 standing for the Broncos puts them at the top of the pile, and no doubt this win against the Patriots will boost their confidence even more.

What’s on tap for Week 6?

Well for one, Mr. Peebles is going to need a quart of Guiness and a bottle of Irish Whiskey to forget his troubles from Week 5. After he recovers from that blowout, here’s a few notes on upcoming action this weekend, Week 6, October 18, 2009:

  • Kansas City Chiefs vs. Washington Redskins – This will be a great game because these two teams are relatively evenly matched. As of Tuesday, October 13, 2009 the spread on this one is +6.5/-6.5 Chiefs/Skins respectively. Peebles thinks it will be closer.
  • Baltimore Ravens vs. Minnesota Vikings – You’ll bet this game if you have nuts in your sack. The spread is +3/-3 Ravens/Vikings respectively. Can Fabulous Favre take down the Ravens?
  • New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints – This game will be a blockbuster matchup between two powerhouse teams. Peebles hasn’t made his mind up about this one yet, but bear in mind the sportsbooks are favoring the Saints -3.
  • Monday Night: Denver Broncos vs. San Diego Chargers – A great MNF event and be sure you tune in. The Bronc’s will probably win, but maybe the Chargers can inch in to the 3.5 point spread.

Good Luck Week 6 NFL Betting from Mr. Peebles!
