NFL Betting – Peebles’ Picks for PreSeason Week 2

It’s still just the preseason, but you have to admit the Bengals’ 7 – 6 win over New England on Thursday was a little surprising. Cinci’s J.T. O’Sullivan passed for 141 yards, with Chad Ochocinco on the receiving end for 69 yards. Meanwhile, DeDe Dorsey of the Bengals put together 60 yards worth of rushing. Anytime a game comes down to 7-6, it’s either because a kicker shanked a field goal, or alternatively, you had rely on your kicker to get the first 6 points from the outfield on the gridiron.

The Colts triumphed over the Eagles 23 -15 without too much difficulty. Peyton Manning dominated the game ( big surprise :) ), throwing for 167 yards, with receiver Reggie Wayne tallying up 90 yards of receiving. Manning also deferred to the rushing offensive players, helping Lance Bell along the way to a respectable 48 yards preseason rushing. Once the regular season begins, it will be interesting to see these two teams play again with the A-list on the field. No doubt we’ll see Manning again, while the Eagles will most definitely recalibrate and put their best feet forward ( oh that’s right, Michael Vick? :( )

So since I’m writing this on Friday evening, after a long week of work, it makes sense to talk about whats going to happen tomorrow on Saturday, August 22 and Monday, August 24, of Week 2 Preseason NFL betting action. You’ll find the complete Preseason Week 2 schedule at the bottom of this post.

Peebles’ Picks for Preseason Week 2, Games on Saturday 8/22 and Monday, 8/24

Carolina Panthers at Miami Dolphins – Saturday, August 22, 2009 – Believe it or not, a lot of people like the Panthers this season, while the Miami Dolphins are generally thought to be trying to clean house and get up to par again. Peebles thinks this contest will go to the Panthers for an outright win. Could Miami cover the spread? That’s a different matter altogether, and I don’t specialize in spread betting for this very reason. The Panthers should also be a force to reckon with during the regular season.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Washington RedSkins
– Saturday, August 22, 2009 – The defending Super Bowl 43 champions are the sure winner in this one. The Redskins are a mediocre team, and it’s likely that even with the Steelers’ second string on the field, they’ll probably still lose. If Pittsburgh puts any top dogs out on the grid, this game win probably be over by half time. Remember, it wasn’t dumb luck that got the Steelers to the Super Bowl last season.

Detroit Lions at Cleveland Browns – Saturday, August 22, 2009 – This one is easy: take the Browns for the win, that is, unless the Lions have had extremely productive preseason practice sessions that have boosted both their game play AND confidence.

San Diego Chargers at Arizona Cardinals – Saturday, August 22, 2009 – Wow, this one could be fun to watch. The Cardinals come in at the middle of the pack in terms of expectations for the regular season, while the San Diego Chargers are favored to have a strong 2009-10 season. It will come down to who’s put on the field. Most of the time, Preseason play is a time to test out the rookies and subs, but if the Chargers feel like winning, they could definitely do so with a strong lineup. Likewise, if Kurt Warner finds his way to the line of scrimmage, things go in the Cards’ favor. In the end, San Diego will probably take this one, but it will be a close game for sure.

New York Jets at Baltimore Ravens – Monday, August 24, 2009 – The Ravens did great in post season play last year, and will be a force during the regular season. The Jets, meanwhile, are so-so, and will have to prove themselves with a strong start to their regular season by winning a few games. Regardless, the Ravens should come away with the “W” on this one.
